New Jersey – August 26, 2024 The Young Women Foundation has recently been recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in New Jersey. The foundation was established by Diana P. Calle and Elizabeth M. Carreras, both residents of Union County and first-generation college graduates. Their commitment to community service and empowerment began during their time with Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Inc. at college. This experience sparked their journey from sorority sisters to nonprofit leaders, driven by a desire to uplift the next generation of women.
The Young Women Foundation is dedicated to empowering young women by equipping them with the necessary tools and opportunities to become leaders and influential figures in their communities. The organization plans comprehensive workshops, speaker series, and networking events that aim to develop individuals and enhance community impact.
Diana Calle shares, "Starting The Young Women Foundation is our way of giving back the support and opportunities that helped us succeed. We aim to open doors for young women and support them in becoming leaders who will shape a more inclusive and prosperous society." Elizabeth Carreras adds, “It’s inspiring to see these young women step into their power and start to envision themselves as leaders. Our foundation is a place for them to grow, connect, and be inspired by each other’s successes.”
The Young Women Foundation is set to host its flagship event, the First Young Women’s Leadership Summit, on October 26th at Rutgers University's Newark Campus. This summit, tailored for young women aged 18 to 24, will feature various workshops and panels covering leadership, health and wellness, financial literacy, effective networking, and more. The goal is to provide attendees with essential knowledge and skills that foster personal and professional growth.
The Young Women Foundation welcomes support from individuals, businesses, and other organizations to join this important effort. Moreover, it offers various ways to get involved, from volunteering and forming partnerships to making donations. Diana shares her enthusiasm: "We are excited about the future and the impact we can have together. Join us in empowering the next generation of women leaders."
